SUMMARY

“Let's explore all the options you can choose from, evaluate their pros and cons, plus talk about why your SEE grade has nothing to do with what you want to study. ”

After the tiring 10th-grade finals, you have many options in your arsenal to choose from. These options have different requirements and different career aspects and hence it can be a bit overwhelming as to which one is the best for you. Well, that's what we are going to figure out today.

Plus Two (+2) in Management

The most popular choice for students after they have finished their SEE is +2 Management. The reason for such popularity is the notion that it is easier than science steam. While that is true, it not definitely not easy to pass. So, do not take it lightly thinking that you are going to pass the +2 finals with minimum effort.

Another aspect to consider here is the idea the general mass has about management. Most tend to think that there is no good career aspect for students learning management compared to those learning science. But that is completely false, every science institute needs management. After your +2 in management, you can choose from Hotel Management, Business Management, Business Administration, Travel and Tourism Management. Among these, there is a plethora of career options such as:

  • Operations Management
  • General Manager
  • Finance Manager
  • Chartered Accountant
  • Chief Financial Officer
  • Business Analyst
  • Chief Human Resource Officer and many more.

Plus Two (+2) in Science

We often hear cases where a student is compelled by teachers and parents to take Science after SEE just because they managed to score an A or A+ grade. This does not usually go well with the student. We are not discouraging students from taking up science. But anything that needs to be forced is not true and ends up bad. Mostly because it's a comparatively difficult stream and someone who's not there on his own preference will surely perform worse.

For those who want to take up science on their own, without any pursuance, it's a great opportunity as you can step into a wide world of science after your +2. But that comes with a cost as you will have to invest much time into your studies, and notes to make sure you don't fail any exams. The minimum requirement to enroll in science stream:

  • 2.0 overall GPA
  • C+ in Science
  • C+ in Maths
  • D+ in Social, Nepali, and English

As for the career options:

  • Biochemist
  • Chemist
  • Environmental Scientist
  • Geologist
  • Astro physicist
  • Epidemiologist
  • Surgeon
  • Research Scientist
  • Zoologist and many more

You can also venture into the IT field if you are interested in technology and computers. In addition, you can venture into engineering and you can also study Management after +2 in Science.

Plus Two (+2) in Humanities

Humanities is a great option for those who are not interested in either Science or Management. This stream has a lot of branches, namely Sociology, Language studies, Psychology, Mass Communication, Economics, Contemporary Society, and Marketing/Business Mathematics. One of the best things about this stream is the fact that all of the branches are approached with a holistic method of teaching. Meaning that you will learn in-depth about anything you will learn that is not heard of in other streams.

However, despite being a good option for students, Humanities is one of the least preferred streams for students. This is because of the fact that there are not many good career options in this field. Here's a list of career options:

  • Archaeologist
  • Psychologist
  • Linguist
  • Sociologist
  • Fashion Designer
  • Graphic Designer
  • Copywriter
  • Anthropologist
  • Teacher

These are good jobs but in the context of Nepal, these jobs are not ideal.

Plus Two (+2) in Education

+2 in Education course serves as the lower secondary teachers' foundational education. Its design aims to transmit fundamental knowledge and advance a number of crucial facets, including its development and educational foundation. The program of study aims to impart information on the meaning, broad perspectives, and functions of education. It also aims to impart information on well-known educators, courses of study, school administration, modern developments in education, counseling and advice, and aspects of education in Nepal.

There is a notion that if one studies +2 in education, they must become teachers. But that is untrue. In any kind of organization, an education student may make a strong leader or mentor. He could serve at a policy level within institutions at the national level since he is knowledgeable about the general state of education in the country. He can serve as an authoritative voice on a variety of national initiatives and develop plans and strategies for the whole system of education in the country. He can also work with numerous NGOs and INGOs that are involved in education. It is inappropriate to confine the education stream to just one profession because education is an extremely diverse and global phenomenon.

Here's a list of career options:

  • Special Ed Teacher
  • Educational Consultant
  • School Principal
  • School Counselor
  • College Professor
  • Dean
  • Librarian

All in all, we advise both students and parents to study what they are interested in rather than being persuaded by someone else. The will to study must come from within not from someone else's charming words.
